The disposal of bulky items of household waste can be made at the household waste sites in the district. These are located at Sandridge, Harpenden and Garston. The opening hours of these sites are as follows:

• Dark Lane, Harpenden 10am - 6pm; 7 days a week
• St. Albans Road, Sandridge, AL4 9XR: 1 April - 30 September 8am - 6pm; 1 October - 31 March 8am - 4pm
• Waterdale, St Albans Road, Nr Garston Opening times: 8am - 6pm daily

A collection service is also available, which currently provides over 2000 collections per annum. The cost of this service is £23.50 (including VAT) for up to 6 items including white goods (i.e. refrigerators, freezers, washing machines, tumble dryers, spin dryers, cookers, dishwashers) or items such as TV sets, PC monitors, sun beds, fluorescent tubes and all electrical goods.

NB. Fridges and Freezer units, once collected, are dealt with separately, i.e. they are taken away to have the CFC gas removed prior to scrapping. If a unit is in good condition, however, it is reconditioned and resold.
